AI notes for every conversation, in any language.

Tam is an AI note-taker for iPhone and Mac. Hit record: it writes the transcript live, knows who said what, and writes your notes in your language. 15 free minutes a month, then $49.99 a year.

How it works

  1. Hit record. From the Lock Screen, Control Center, or ⌃⌥R on the Mac. When a call starts on your Mac, Tam offers to record it.
  2. Talk. Tam writes the transcript as you go, tells speakers apart, and hears which language is being spoken, even when people switch mid-sentence.
  3. Get things done. Stop, and Tam writes the notes: summary, decisions and action items, each checked against what was actually said. Ask it anything later.

Where Tam beats the others

Any language, automatically

12 languages, detected by Tam, not picked from a menu. Mixed English and Spanish at dinner, Vietnamese at the clinic: one recording, notes in your language.

Knows who said what

Speakers are told apart live. Name a voice once and Tam recognizes that person next time, on the phone or the Mac. Voices never leave your device.

In person, not just on calls

Most note-takers only join video calls. Tam records the room from your iPhone, and both sides of Zoom, Teams, FaceTime and browser calls on your Mac. No bot.

A fraction of the price

$49.99 a year, or $6.99 a month. The usual note-takers charge $14 to $20 a month per person. And 15 minutes a month are free, forever.

The honest other side: Granola, Otter and Fathom have team workspaces, calendar integrations and Windows or Android apps. Tam doesn't yet. Details on each comparison page: Granola, Otter, Fathom.

Talk: a live interpreter in your pocket

On the iPhone, tap Talk and speak. Tam says what you said in the other person's language, and what they said in yours, out loud. The conversation stays as a thread you can read later. Built for the dinner table, the doctor's office, the trip where you don't speak the language.

Why one person built this

My mom speaks Vietnamese and not much English. My girlfriend's family speaks Spanish. I grew up translating at the kitchen table, and I still get lost in Mexico. Every note-taker I tried was built for English-only work calls. So I built the one that works for the rest of my life too: meetings, yes, but also the clinic, the class, and dinner.

Tam is made by me, Nhat Dinh. No investors, no sales team. When you write to hello@heytam.app, you're talking to the owner.

Questions

Is Tam a Granola alternative?

Yes. Like Granola, Tam records your meetings without a bot and writes the notes. Unlike Granola, Tam works in person on your iPhone, transcribes 12 languages and switches between them automatically, recognizes who is speaking by voice, and costs $49.99 a year instead of $14 a user a month. Tam vs Granola.

Does Tam work in Spanish and Vietnamese?

Yes. Tam transcribes English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Indonesian, Thai, Japanese, Korean and Chinese, detects the language by itself, and writes your notes in the language you choose.

Does a bot join my meetings?

No. On the Mac, Tam records both sides of Zoom, Teams, FaceTime and browser calls from your computer's audio. On the iPhone it records the room. Nothing joins the call.

How much does Tam cost?

15 minutes of recording a month are free, no card needed. Tam Pro is $49.99 a year (about $4.17 a month) or $6.99 month to month, for unlimited recording and notes.

Do I need an account?

No. Tam has no sign-up. Notes and transcripts are stored on your device; subscriptions go through Apple.

Can Tam tell who said what?

Yes. Tam tells speakers apart live. Name a voice once and Tam recognizes that person in later recordings. Voiceprints stay on your device.

What goes to the cloud?

Audio streams to Soniox for speech-to-text, and conversation text goes to Anthropic's Claude through Tam's relay to write notes, answers and translations. Neither keeps it or trains on it. Voiceprints, notes and transcripts stay on your device. Privacy.

Is recording other people legal?

Tell people you're recording. Many US states and many countries require everyone's consent; Tam shows a line you can say ("I'm using Tam to follow along. It records the conversation and translates it for me.").
